Cellulitis is an altered condition of subcutaneous tissue, rich in lipocytes (or "fat cells"). It is located under the skin and is characterized by hypertrophy of lipocytes where excess liquids grow between the cells. The normal balance of lymphatic and venous systems is compromised, resulting in water retention from local tissues.
Cellulitis is caused by an alteration in microcirculation. Many are the factors which give rise to it: some of them, known as "primary", do not depend on our lifestyle and are therefore impossibile to eliminate, like gender, race and hereditary factors; others, related to specific pathologies or to medicine assumption; finally, factors depending on our habits, which can be eliminated by controlling diet and making exercise.
